We consistently surpass the national average in GCSE examinations. We have high expectations of our mixed ability pupils to ensure they give of their best. We seek always to do more.
It is vitally important to us, our pupils and their families that academic success does not become the be all and end all. It is equally important to a child’s education that they unearth and develop individual talents and interests. In fact we believe that such high levels of attainment are as a result of developing the whole person.
We take an innovative approach to the curriculum and believe it should reflect the world in which we live. We are among the first schools in the country to introduce Design Engineer Construct!®, a nationally recognised qualification designed to inspire the next generation of built environment professionals. In parallel we delight in having the in-house expertise to offer traditional subjects such as Latin.
Pupils begin the GCSE course in Year 10, when the foundation laid in the years prior comes to fruition. The knowledge, work ethic, resourcefulness and initiative pupils have developed means they are well equipped to achieve excellence in the public examinations at the end of Year 11.
The subjects all pupils must study at GCSE are:
- English Language
- English Literature
- Modern Foreign Language (one of French, Spanish or Latin, a second can be chosen)
- Religious Studies
- Science (two of Physics, Chemistry or Biology, a third can be chosen)
The optional subjects that can be chosen in addition are:
- Art and Design
- Design and Technology (Resistant Materials)
- Design and Technology (Textile Technology)
- Physical Education
