Editor addresses Higher Line
The first female editor of the Sheffield Star and Sheffield Telegraph visited Mount St Mary’s College on Friday to address sixth form students.
Nancy Fielder was guest speaker of the Bellarmine Society, which seeks to expand the horizons of Poetry and Rhetoric (Years 12 and 13).
Mrs Fielder, who is Sheffield born and bred, shared her career journey with the students before encouraging them to interview her with a question and answer session focused on working in the media.
Mr Christopher McAllister, Deputy Head, coordinates the once weekly series of Bellarmine lectures. He said: “Mrs Fielder delivered a highly interesting and interactive session for Higher Line. It was valuable insight into the workings of a daily newspaper and the reality of life in a newsroom.”
Mr McAllister draws from a broad range of fields when putting together the speaker programme to ensure students are exposed to a spectrum of career ideas and inspiration. Historians, philosophers and scientists are among previous speakers.
