Grand Academy Ball launches Mount 175!
A year of celebration was launched by one amazing 'Grand Celebration Week', culminating in the Mount 175 Grand Academy Ball, with our Rhetoric students as the guests of honour.
The formal black-tie ball for 600 guests took place on Saturday 27th May and many Old Mountaineers returned back to their school from countries including Hong Kong, USA, Malaysia, and Argentina.
They were joined by past and present parents, along with staff and friends of the College.
The 175 Grand Academy Ball took place in a marquee on the Jesuit Lawn, cossetted between the school buildings. The marquee was decorated with hundreds of hanging lanterns in the blue, yellow and white, a nod to the school’s colours, and huge illuminated letters spelling out Mount 175 were a focal point.
The evening began with a drinks reception on the lawn with jazz music from Mad Dog and the Sophisticats, a lively four piece from Hull. Guests stepped into the marquee to take their seats for a delicious five course dinner and an auction including signed boxing gloves from world heavyweight champion and Sheffield’s own Anthony Joshua MBE.
Headmaster Dr Nicholas Cuddihy addressed guests, thanking them for the huge efforts many had gone to in order to be at the special occasion and praising the “Mount spirit” that spans the generations.
Dr Cuddihy said: “This is a very special place, a very special occasion and a very special school. It is so good to see so many of the Mount family have taken time to come together from all over the world to start the celebrations.”
Eight-piece show band Jam Hot got the post-dinner party going in style and the dancefloor was full for the whole night. The collective travelled from London to entertain the ball goers.
