1st XV match report: Worksop vs Mount St Mary’s
This was a truly fantastic game of rugby to watch and I’m sure to play in. Mount dominated in the first half, with at least 85% possession, some devastating attack and good solid defence. Somehow, despite this, the boys were trailing 10-5 going into half time.
Worksop, to their credit, absorbed everything our boys had to throw at them and began strongly in the second half.
With 20 minutes to go we were 17-5 down and from here it looked like the victory was heading Worksop's way. However, a fantastic cross field kick from Harry Barnes saw winger Seyi Paul race to collect the ball on the bounce to touch down. In the last five minutes Luke Harrison crashed over from 20 yards and Harry Barnes slotted a touch line kick straight between the posts.
Now we were leading 19-17 with only two minutes left to play. In what was the last play of the game, the Mount forwards gave away a penalty that was in kicking range for the Worksop fly half. The ball just going inches wide of the posts meant that Mount were deserving winners in what was an absolute thriller!
