Year of Celebration Begins!
A year of celebrations to mark the 175th anniversary of Mount St Mary’s College in Spinkhill has begun!
Twelve months of special events, culminating in a ball at our Barlborough Hall campus in May 2018, will mark this chapter.
The College was opened on 17th September 1842 by Father Randal Lythgoe SJ, the Provincial of the Jesuits in Britain at the time.
Thousands of children have since been educated in the Jesuit tradition in the small Derbyshire village of Spinkhill and neighbouring Barlborough, where our nursery and preparatory site is located.
Through a year of special events we shall celebrate our heritage and identity and the many talents and abilities of today’s pupils.
The launch of the year is Grand Celebration Week, running from Saturday 20th to Saturday 27th May. The programme for the week is:
sports day for Year 3 to Year 13 pupils at the Mount Stadium and pavilion
an afternoon tea with fashion show and music
children’s theatre day for local primary schools
sports awards evening to celebrate our pupils’ sporting success
wedding fair to showcase our grounds to brides and grooms
Academy concert featuring performances from our phenomenal musicians
Academy speech day to award academic prizes to pupils
Grand Academy Ball, a celebration of almost 600 people – current families and staff, Old Mountaineers and friends of the school
Together, we look forward to an ever brighter future for Mount St Mary’s and Barlborough Hall.
