From the Classroom to the Stage
All pupils in Year 7 (Upper Elements), 8 (Figures) and 9 (Rudiments) have one class music lesson per week. The basis for the programme of study is the musical elements, and the skills are performing, composing and listening.

All Year 7 & 8 pupils are invited to participate in Junior Choir (SSA) as well as audition for our biennial whole school Musical Theatre production. In Year 9 pupils move up to Senior Choir which sings full SATB repertoire.

Music and choral scholars will join the Scholars’ Choir as well as Junior Choir.

There is a biennial choir tour involving pupils and their families. Recent tours include Rome, Malta and Italy.

Pupils having individual music lessons will have an opportunity to participate in the Worksop Festival of Music and Drama.

Music exams for singers and instrumentalists take place three times a year.

Pupils are advised by their teacher as to when they take these. We are an exam centre for ABRSM, LCM (Musical Theatre) and RockSchool. Individual and group music theory classes are available in order to prepare for the grade 5 theory exam.

Pupils can perform solos in Friday morning assemblies in our beautiful Memorial Chapel.

Suitable instrumentalists are invited to join one of our instrumental ensembles where they benefit from specialist tuition and repertoire.

Scholars’ challenges are available for those pupils who like to immerse themselves in musical opportunities.

Year 9 (Rudiments) pupils have the opportunity to opt for GCSE music. It is expected that Music and Choral Scholars take music as one of their option subjects.
