The Best Independent Prep School in Derbyshire!!

Barlborough Hall School, the preparatory school of Mount St Mary’s College, are delighted to have been listed as one of the Sunday Times Parent Power List top schools for 2018.

Barlborough Hall School, located in the beautiful Derbyshire village of Barlborough, not only placed number 57 in the national listing but was also ranked as the best Independent Preparatory School in Derbyshire. “We are absolutely delighted to be ranked by the Sunday Times” said Mrs Karen Keeton, Headteacher of Barlborough Hall School. “This result is made even more impressive by the fact that we are not academically selective on entry. It demonstrates the excellence of the education on offer here at Barlborough Hall School, along with the support and dedication of our highly experienced staff. We are all extremely proud of this result.”

The latest Parent Power listing ranks independent preparatory and state primary schools according to the outcomes of the national Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs) in reading, maths, spelling, punctuation and grammar taken by Year 6 children in 2017. “Whilst this result is a testament to our children’s academic ability, we also focus very hard on ensuring the right balance between academic achievements and a wonderfully broad education that prepares our children for senior school and beyond,” said Mrs Keeton.

New-style SATs were introduced in May 2016, with a ‘scaled score’ replacing the previous ‘levels’ method of assessing children’s performance in tests covering reading, SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and mathematics.
